Introduction
Over the past several years, there has been a resurgence of film photography. As a result, the price of analog cameras have risen to keep up with the demand. There are many reasons why there’s a revival of film photography.
One of the main reasons is the aesthetics. The chemicals from the color films produce unique colors, textures, and brightness that a digital camera could never recreate. The film colors also evoke nostalgia which gives some sort of comfort for viewers and photographers.
Another reason for the rise of popularity is because of the simple functionality. In this digital age, it’s very easy to snap a photo and see the results immediately. But film photography acts the opposite way. You’re forced to take your time to compose a photo because you’re limited by the amount of exposures. You also can’t see your images until it's been developed.
Many people, especially for the younger generation, are fascinated by film photography because there is a level of authenticity that comes from a film camera as opposed to a filtered image that they see on Instagram.
Personally, I use film photography as an artistic expression. It forces me to be creative with my pictures because you’re limited to a certain amount of frames. I also like the surprise element because you won’t know how the pictures will turn out until you develop them.
Purpose
This blog highlights my passion for film photography. It’s also a way to document my journey as a photographer as I continue to improve my skills.
